I’ve been looking around for an epub format of the New World Translation of the Holy Scriptures Bible so that I can read it on my magic using aldiko.Unfortunately, I can’t find anything. Actually, I already have an application for that Bible separately but it would really be nice if I can read it on my Aldiko app because of the features I mentioned on my previous blog. I’m really eager to read the whole bible completely so I decided to make my own epub format. And what I really want to achieve is the proper formatting of verse numbers.
Using Sigil, a WYSIWYG ebook editor, I learned that the epub format is just a formatted HTML. So my first plan is to convert the text format bible I got from somewhere into an HTML. But there are 66 books in the bible containing thousands of chapters! Yeah I’m willing to go through this little by little. If I can work on 1 book a day, I could finish it in 2 months! Wow! Such determination LOL!
And so I started working, and the lazy (in a nice way) guy I am, I learned a few tricks that could speed up the process. But I was really lazy haha. I thought if only I could find a html format of this bible, then my life would be easier. And so I found it. On the http://www.watchtower.org website. I could view the source, copy the parts I need and strip off the excess HTML tags from the source. But still, this method is very time consuming. I can’t even got through the 20th chapter of the book of Genesis in 4 hours!
This is where my ultimate laziness (programmers are very lazy, LOL) really kicks in. I summoned httrack to mirror the bible from the web. I now got the .htm files in my PC. I just need to combine them into a huge .htm file altogether. I used my old friend Ultra Edit for this tasks. I stripped off the unneeded tags, comments, etc using Regular Expressions find and replace (really sweet!) and combined the files into a single clean .htm file and loaded it up to Sigil (which takes 5 minutes to load, 10 minutes to save as epub). Finally, I got my very own epub format of the New World Translation Bible loaded in Aldiko. What an achievement in one day (originally could have been taken in 2 months!). Just wow! I even learned some regex tricks on the process. So here it is, loaded in my HTC Magic.
Sometimes, it’s good to be lazy. Provided that you let your PC work for you automatically.

Don’t know if you have published a how to, here is a quick how to that I used to build .mobi, .epub, and a .zip for use on ppc with ubook program.
Programs used.
1999 WTLIB to build txt files.
Interparse 4.26 convert txt to html.
Editpad pro, to place h3 tags at the start of every chapter.
mobipocket creator, to build a table of contents file for each Bible book that has chapters, (61), using the h3 attribute, saving each toc file. (tocMark.html, etc.),
Took tocPsalms.html and edited in editpad pro changing chapter links to Bible tocbook links erasing extras and saving as bible.html.plus links to 5 books that have only 1 chapter.
Used mobipocket creator put all 128 files in order with bible.html first followed by Books of bible in correct order, toc files built this with mobi and had a working kindle Bible.
Calibre than could convert to epub or many other formats.
I’m trying to make my own epub WTLib but so far I’m failing miserably. Congratulations and thanks for all your hard work. Could I please have a copy to load on my nook? I haven’t given up yet but since you already have an epub completed…
Thanks!
Hey, im trying to get this on my kindle and need to get it to a .mobi format. if you could send me the .htm and .epub file that would help me out a lot
Hey, I just began studying and I was hoping you could send me a copy also. And, what would it take to get you to make a copy is Spanish? I would really appreciate it.
If you could send me a copy too that would be great. Thanks
Hi Brother, just what I’ve been looking for. I’ve had a try myself but I just don’t have the tech knowledge to do it as hard as I try. I’d be ever so grateful if you could email me a copy too please, .mobi for Kindle if you have it or .epub will be just fine … I can manage to convert it in Calibre, as far as my tech skills go sadly.
Could you please send me a copy in mobi or epub? I would love to have this for my kindle.
Glad to help everyone interested! I’m planning to convert other languages too very soon so I can help more. Thanks everyone!
asero, great work. Any chance of getting a copy of the NWT, english, french, or spanish? .mobi or .epub is fine. Please email or send a link. Would be greatly appreciated!
Hi!
I am a brother from Estonia. I recently got an Android HTC and have been enjoying Aldiko on it too! Having the NWT on it would be perfect, since iSilo is not the best and fastest piece of software. Congrats on your great work and i hope you will succeed in a lot more! Can you send me also the file for the Bible? Thanks, from snowy Estonia!
Well, very industrius and commendable. Jehovah is proud I’m sure that you took the time to do such a conversion. And I understand why you don’t have it published on a link. However, can you either email or link it up to me? It’s always handy to have something to reference when during the day you may have a chance to witness.
Hi, Great work! Would you mind sending me the files as well?
Many thanks!

Please, can you send me or publish into your website, a step by instruction about this phase. I’ve already on my pc the mirror of italian bible so i’d like to create a single html file and create index, but how to use regexp, and which regexp to use, it’s far away from my knowledge… please…

Would you please send me a copy for my kindle?
A friend of mine was working on creating an ebook for Kindle. Then I found this website. I’d love to have a copy of your ePub NW. If you don’t have a MOBI format, i can convert it using Calibre.
This will be greatly appreciated.
Oooh, please send this to me too is you are able! Thank you!
Hi,
Great news! Could you please send me a copy of the epub files?
Thank you!
I have a nook and would love it if you can send me a copy?
Thanks for the info.
The programs listed on your website work well. I built macros to strip out the headers and footers of each HTML page in each chapter, then used another macro to cut and paste the pages into a single HTML page for each bible book. Converted into EPub and works well on my iPad and iPhone .
Took about a day of playing around to learn how UE functions and about day and half to convert the whole of the NWT.
Having just read the other posts and further to my last comment, macros are easily built by using the record function in UE. Macros can be set to run many times (UE drop down macro menu) so they can be kept simple and set to run to correspond with the number of chapters, held in UE.
For instance now I am familiar with UE, the hardest book, Psalms, can be stripped and processed in a few minutes.
Navigation with iPad and iPhone are superb with my ePub file using iBook program
Thank you very much Rob for the information. It’s nice to know you’ve found another easier way to share as well.
Did you compile all books in one file too? You’ve mentioned superb navigation. Have you found another way to browse the chapters without using a lengthy TOC?
Hi , I am a brother in Essex and I would love to put the nwt on my kindle , can you email me the file and a brief description of how to do it? Many thanks
may Jehovah bless your efforts .
Hi there. Would you mind sending a copy of your NWT in epub format to me please.

I’ve been looking for an epub version of the bible to load onto my mother’s kindle for about a month. Could you please email this to me. Thanks
I too have been looking for a ColorNook/Nook version and I’m not savvy enough to do what you have done, so could I humbly ask for an epub copy please?

Hi, could I please have NWT in English for my kindle please?
Thank you and good job!
Anyone else have trouble accessing this on an iPad 2? When I try to open it in iBooks, it is extremely slow to respond and will even lock up the iPad and close iBooks. Sometimes if I click on a book of the bible it takes about 6-7 minutes before it finally opens to that page. Anyone else having problems like this?
Fantastic! I was searching the web for just this exact thing. I tried the .org site, but I only saw the online version. If possible could I have a copy to download for my 14 y.o. for her Nook? Thank you for your time and effort converting the NWT!
Could I please obtain an English NWT .mobi or .epub file from you?
If you still have this could you send a copy of the English NWT to me for my kindle??
Thank you much for all your work!
I’m very impressed. I must also agree about the lazy part. I thought to myself, before I try to convert this, let me see if it has been done alreaddy. Thank you for your effort and time. May I please have an english copy.
I’d be pleased to have a copy as well. Thanks for the hard work!
